Skin Tags are often a result of skin friction. They are harmless and are very common. They affect about 20% of the population, which makes them one of the most common skin conditions in the world. The medical term for these growths is acrochordon or fibroepithelial polyp. People who are obese are more prone to them as well as pregnant women. They usually appear in areas where there is friction like armpits, groin and eyelids.

What causes skin tags?

There is no definitive answer to that question but researchers believe that they occur due to abrasion (skin rubbing against skin) or an area of skin chafing against clothing or jewelry. Other factors that may contribute to its development include excess weight or obesity, pregnancy and diabetes (diabetic patients have high blood sugar that can lead to excessive insulin production).

What Are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are small, non-cancerous growths that appear on the skin. They typically form in areas that rub together or that are exposed to friction, such as the armpits, chest, legs, neck, or groin. Skin tags are often referred to by their medical term acrochordon (plural acrochorda) or fibroepithelial polyp.

The medical name for a skin tag is an acrochordon. These are benign tumors that form from an outgrowth of skin tissue. They may also be called a fibroepithelial polyp or cutaneous papilloma.

This can happen anywhere on the body but it is most likely to occur where the skin folds over itself. This typically happens in the armpits, groin and neck regions.

This type of growth is not cancerous so there is no need to worry about it becoming malignant. It will however grow slowly and over time this can cause irritation as it rubs on clothing

Skin tags are small, more often than not flesh-colored growths that hang off the skin. A few are no greater than a pinhead, while others can be as extensive as a grape. They are most basic around the eyelids, neck, underarms and bosoms. It’s not remarkable for the elderly to experience them, yet they can show up on individuals of any age group.

In spite of their name, they are not really tags at all. They are thought to be brought about by either rubbing or skin rubbing against skin or something else like apparel. Maybe this is the reason they frequently happen in packs or lines of various sizes.

It is conceivable that pregnant ladies may see an expansion in these developments because of expanded blood stream and hormones influencing the body. There have been cases where ladies have seen an adjustment in their skin labels after pregnancy, however this is uncommon.

skin tags are small, benign skin growths that can occur on the body. These growths can vary in size, shape and color. Most skin tags are flesh colored or dark brown and are often described as looking like tiny pieces of hanging soft fruit. Commonly, skin tags appear on the eyelids, neck, armpits, groin folds and under breasts.

Most skin tags are harmless and painless and don’t require treatment. However, if you want to remove your skin tags for cosmetic reasons or if a skin tag becomes irritated or painful, there are a few things you can try.

Skin tags are a common skin condition that is often seen in adults. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, about 26 percent of people have this problem. While they are not dangerous, you may want to remove them for cosmetic reasons. They can be unsightly and embarrassing if they appear in visible areas on the body.

Skin tags are usually harmless, but they do not mean that you should ignore them. You should remember that even though they are harmless, they can still cause some problems such as itching and discomfort. There are some things you can do to get rid of them so you don’t have to worry about them anymore.

As many as 43 percent of women and 28 percent of men are diagnosed with skin tags at least once in their lifetime. These common growths look like tiny pieces of “hanging” skin and appear in clusters or individually on the neck, armpits, under the breasts, eyelids, groin area, and other areas where clothing rubs against the skin. In fact, it’s estimated that around 50 percent of people have skin tags by the time they turn 65 years old.

So what causes them? Tags happen when a piece of skin becomes trapped inside a narrow band of collagen fibers — often near a crease in your skin. This can be caused by a number of things, including friction from clothing or jewelry, weight gain (pregnancy and obesity), hormonal fluctuations (like those that happen during pregnancy), and genetics.

Skin tags are generally painless and benign (not cancerous). The only negative is their appearance. If you don’t like how they look, you can easily get rid of them through various methods like freezing them off or cutting them off.
