Cleansing is the first step in any skin care routine and it is the most important. Cleansing your face will remove all dirt, oil, makeup and other residue from your face.

Use a gentle cleanser twice per day (morning and night) to wash your face with warm water. Use your fingertips to apply the cleanser because using wash cloth or any other cleansing tool can cause micro-tears on your skin and lead to premature aging.

After cleansing, you can use toners, astringents and facial mists that are designed to restore the pH balance of your skin.**

I review skin care products and share what I know about ingredients and routines. I don’t talk about hair, makeup or nails. This blog is for people who want to take good care of their skin.

I have a background in science and mostly review products that are available at drugstores (though I may occasionally review prestige products if I’m interested in them). I don’t sell these products or receive compensation for reviewing them.

As a beauty writer, I am constantly researching and testing products for the sake of my job, but in all honesty, my skin-care routine is pretty low maintenance. I like to keep things simple because I know that’s the best way to keep my skin calm.

That’s not to say I don’t love a good multi-step Korean skin-care regimen or the elaborate routines of other skin-care fanatics, but with my dry and sensitive complexion, fewer products are better for me.

One such product that has become a staple in my routine is what I like to call the “All Things” oil: Kahina Giving Beauty Facial Lotion ($78). In addition to being a super-hydrating body oil, it can also be used as a facial cleanser, moisturizer and hair mask. It’s also 100% natural and made with Argan oil sourced sustainably from women’s cooperatives in Morocco.

I’m a fan of the simple approach: a lot of water, good sleep, and minimal skin care products. But I’m also a fan of testing out new products.

So when I was recently in the market for a new facial moisturizer, I decided to go all out and try five different ones in one week. Here is what happened!

There are many factors that contribute to skin aging. But what if you could avoid accelerated aging from the inside out? Research has identified specific nutrients that can help improve skin tone and elasticity. The key to keeping your skin looking youthful is a healthy diet, rich in fruit, vegetables and the right nutrients.

A common misconception is that your skin needs to be exfoliated every day — but this isn’t true! In fact, over-exfoliating can cause more harm than good by damaging your skin’s natural barrier function, which then makes it more vulnerable to irritation and infection. Exfoliating once or twice a week should be enough to remove any dead cells on the surface of your skin without causing damage.

The best way to keep moisture locked into your skin is to keep it hydrated from the inside out! Drink plenty of water throughout the day and eat foods that are high in water content such as melon, cucumber and tomatoes.

A good night’s sleep gives your body time to repair itself, including your skin! So if you’re looking for radiant skin, make sure you’re getting enough rest each night.
